Fat burning
Fat is a soft connective tissue that occurs in the human and animal body and can increase in mass depending on the body. There is white, beige and brown fatty tissue.
Functions of fat cells:
- Storage : The fat content in the body serves to create reserves so that the body can survive for weeks without food in crisis situations.
- Insulates : Fat is a poor conductor of heat. For this reason, it acts as insulation and provides protection for the body.
- Padding : The structural fat serves to protect certain parts of the body such as the soles of the feet, buttocks, knees, etc. This fat is broken down as a last reserve.
- Metabolism : Since fat secretes hormone-like substances, it plays an important role in energy metabolism.
How do you create more fat mass?
Depending on age, gender and exercise, we use energy every day. As a guideline, an adult woman uses an average of 2000 kcal, and an adult man up to 2500 kcal. Men's higher muscle mass and higher metabolic rate cause greater energy consumption. However, as we get older, our calorie needs decrease. Adipocytes - that's what our fat cells are called - are our long-term energy stores. If a person consumes too many calories, the cell stores them. These fat cells do not grow, but rather they enlarge. They can grow up to 200 times larger. If there are not enough, the body creates new storage cells (obesity).
Burn fat?
Once you understand how fat is created, you will also understand that it cannot work without a controlled calorie intake and without an increased calorie consumption. Healthy eating and exercise are the most important things to reduce your weight, but also to keep your weight stable. This is essential; don't let anyone talk you into anything else.
However, there are tools that can boost and support fat burning. Here are a few examples of how you can boost your metabolism:
- Drink enough water, about 2 liters a day, which stimulates your metabolism and also partially suppresses your hunger.
- Reduce your calorie intake, but don't go on extreme diets that you can't maintain for long.
- Eat more proteins, they boost your metabolism.
- Eat fewer simple carbohydrates and more complex carbohydrates such as: oats, whole grains, whole grain spaghetti, natural yoghurt, legumes, quinoa, etc.
- Eat good fats like: avocado, almonds, walnuts, olive oil, salmon, etc.
- Get enough sleep, because if you don't sleep enough (<7 hours), you produce more ghrelin - a hormone that is responsible for controlling hunger and satiety.
- Drink a cup of green tea daily, it boosts your metabolism.
- Drinking lukewarm lemon water after sleep promotes fat burning.
- Exercise is important, and strength training also helps you burn fat.
