Turmeric is a root that contains a yellow pigment, curcumin, which is considered a complementary remedy for chronic, inflammatory and degenerative diseases.

It inhibits both COX (cyclooxygenase) and LOX (lipoxygenase), two enzymes that regulate inflammatory processes.

The medicinal use of turmeric has a long tradition; it is very unstable in the pH value of the intestine, poorly soluble in water, poorly bioavailable when taken orally and is quickly excreted.

Curcumin appears to be involved in the regulation of the MtorC2 receptor, whose activity promotes cell proliferation and differentiation through a down-regulatory effect.

Curcumin is therefore used for preventive and therapeutic purposes in certain types of cancer.
